I am interested in the use of cutting-edge computing tools to aid research in the fields of ecology and conservation. My PhD is focused on using deep learning approaches to automate the analysis of large camera trap data sets (such as identifying species in images). If the analysis of camera trap data can be fully automated, this paves the way for camera traps to be used as a low-cost, automatic and scalable tool for global biodiversity monitoring.
